The latest trend of sea shanty memes has taken the internet by storm over the last few weeks and now you can listen to an hour-long show featuring the best maritime bops on NTS.
Originally aired at 2pm on January 26th, ‘Shanties & Forebitters: Songs of the Sea’ is described as: “An hour of maritime folk music popularised during the age of commercial sail, from the late sixteenth up until the mid nineteenth century.
“Featuring shanties, the long and rhythmic work songs sung by crew members of packet ships, alongside the more up-beat forebitters or fo’c’sle songs, more often sung with instrumental accompaniment and reserved for off-duty hours.”
